UMA is seeking to employ qualified, experienced, and motivated Ventilation Engineer

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Regularly conduct ventilation surveys to measure air quality, airflow rates, gas concentrations, and temperature.
Oversee the maintenance of ventilation equipment, including fans, regulators, and ducts.
Continuously monitor air quality to detect hazardous gases such as carbon monoxide, Nitrous fumes, etc., and take corrective actions as needed.
Ensure all ventilation systems comply with local, national, and international mining regulations and safety standards.
Develop and implement emergency response plans for ventilation-related incidents, such as gas leaks or fires.
Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments related to mine ventilation.
Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
Work with the Mine Foremen and Supervisors to get ventilation works carried out in a timely manner and to the specified standard of quality
Provide technical guidance and support to junior ventilation engineers and other technical staff.
Train mine personnel on ventilation best practices, equipment usage, and safety procedures.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as mine planning, operations, and safety, to ensure ventilation needs are met and integrated into overall mine plans.
Collect and analyze ventilation data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and potential issues.
Prepare detailed reports on ventilation system performance, including recommendations for improvements.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on data analysis and industry best practices
Plan and manage ventilation-related projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Oversee the implementation of ventilation projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Complete various daily, weekly, monthly reports as required.
Ensure safety by adhering to all mining safety protocols and using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe work environment.
Be open to learning new methods and be willing to share your skills and knowledge with co-workers
Maintain high standards of housekeeping in the shop and at job sites
Skills Required
Must possess a minimum of BSc. in Mining Engineering from a recognized University with minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines
Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and able to drive manual SUV underground.
Must possess Blasting Certificate and Mine Rescue Certificate.
Proven experience in Ventsim Software/ VUMA Software.
Ability to influence and engage with operational and non-operational employees and contractors with strong demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be conversant with the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana
Proven experience in Mine Planning Software preferably Surpac.
Ability to learn new tasks quickly as well as train, coach, and mentor crew members.
Strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused
Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
Ability to work both day and night.
Develop and manage the detailed work schedules for electrical maintenance activities, ensuring they are aligned with the mining production schedule and operational priorities.
