Project Brief

• The Programme Support to the AfCFTA is designed to create favourable framework conditions for realizing AfCFTA.
• The strategy starts at continental level (negotiating framework) and takes into account key synergies with the actors at regional (economic communities) and national level.
• In Ghana, the project is supporting the negotiations and national implementation of AfCFTA.
• The Ghana component supports the work of partners like the Ministry of Trade and industry, the National AfCFTA Coordination Office, Ghana Revenue Authority – Customs Division, Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry among others on implementation of the AfCFTA

Scope of Role

• The Trade Policy Advisor will play a key role in the implementation of the Programme Support to AfCFTA.
• The person will be the key liaison for the National AfCFTA Coordination Office, as well as private sector associations and chambers.
• Main responsibilities include supporting key stakeholders in the domestication of AfCFTA, documenting lessons learned and providing advice on institutional strengthening.
• The role will also involve monitoring and evaluation in order to ensure effective reporting on project progress.

Tasks:

• Develop and implement project activities with partners from relevant government agencies and private sector actors.
• Be the key liaison for the National AfCFTA Coordination office and private sector associations and chambers.
• Identify and conceptualize possible support interventions on trade related topics particularly on the domestication of AfCFTA
• Update program operational documents periodically, support the monitoring and update of the project’s M&E system
• Review reports, documents, working papers, and publications related to trade topics
• Create and maintain good flow of information with other GIZ projects and relevant donor programs
• Prepare, implement and document training events, workshops, forums, team meetings and other project activities

Profile:

• Master’s degree in International Trade, International Law, Investment, International Economics, Economic Development; Political Science or similar.
• At least 3 years’ professional experience in a comparable position.
• Sound knowledge of AfCFTA and its protocols is an advantage.
• Expertise in Trade in Goods, Trade in Services, Trade Facilitation is an advantage.
• High level of organizational, communication, reporting, and writing skills.
• Ability to prioritize and deliver assigned tasks diligently under strict deadlines.
• Excellent skills in writing and speaking English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel within and outside the country.
