Project Brief:
• The EU co-funded SKBoWa project, aimed at enhancing human security conditions in border regions spanning Burkina Faso, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana, operates in Upper West and Savannah Regions.
• Focused on local governance, social cohesion, and economic development, it fosters collaboration among districts bordering Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. Aligned with regional EU actions and German-coordinated projects, it leverages partnerships with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), and Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD), the Ghana Boundary Commission and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
• The project strengthens institutional capacities, improves local actors’ abilities for security and social cohesion, and enhances economic opportunities for vulnerable groups.
Scope of Role:
• The Agri-Business Advisor, with focus on both public and private sectors, provides specialized guidance and support to government institutions and stakeholders involved in agricultural expansion and cross-border development. Responsibilities include advising government and private institutions on measures to support targeted value chains, fostering collaboration among public and private sector actors such as regional and district agriculture departments, private sector associations and actors, and devising strategies for sustainable farming practices.
• The advisor establishes networks among public and private sector actors, integrates relevant initiatives into training programs. Additionally, s/he engages with government agencies to address regulatory barriers, monitors intervention performance, and prepares comprehensive reports for program documentation
Tasks:
• Advising Government and private institutions on measures that, for various targeted value chains, support expansion of the sector and access to markets.
• Advise the Regional Agric Directorates and Districts Departments of Agriculture on strategies and measures to foster cross-border development of value chains.
• Establish networks among public and private sector actors involved in cross-border value chain development and trade of agricultural commodities.
• Capacity building of agricultural extension services and farmers to promote sustainable farming practices and environmental conservation.
• Integrate concepts and methodologies from MOAP-NW and REACH initiatives into training programs.
• Identify and analyze existing value chains in the cross-border region, develop strategies to enhance coordination and collaboration among stakeholders within these value chains.
• Engage with government agencies and private sector actors to address regulatory barriers and promote investment opportunities.
• Conceptualize training sessions on Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), Conservation Agriculture (CA), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP).
• Design and facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions on value chain development, SME business management, and market linkages.
• Collaborate with Business Resource Centers (BRCs), Business Advisory Centers (BACs), aggregators, processors, and other organizations to deliver training programs for entrepreneurs in agriculture.
• Prepare appropriate input for various programme reports including annual reports and other reports required by GIZ Head Office and the EU.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, or related field.
• 5 years’ experience working with Public sector actors in the field of Agriculture
• Proven experience in agricultural value chain development, capacity building, and entrepreneurship training.
• Strong understanding of Good Agricultural Practices, Conservation Agriculture principles, and relevant industry standards.
• Regional experience in northern Ghana especially in Upper West and Savannah Regions
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and networking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural settings and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in relevant computer applications and data analysis tools.
• Knowledge of Region and local languages of the Upper West and Savannah Regions.
