Agriculture and Resilience Specialist Summary
The Agriculture and Resilience Specialist leads the development and implementation of community-based agricultural initiatives aimed at improving food security, promoting sustainable farming practices, and enhancing the resilience of local communities to climate change and economic shocks. The role involves capacity building, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, and evaluating agricultural practices and interventions tailored to the communitys unique environmental and socio-economic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Program Design and Implementation
Design and implement community-based agricultural and resilience programs focused on sustainable farming, climate-smart agriculture, and ecosystem management.
Develop strategies for enhancing agricultural productivity and food security in the face of changing environmental conditions.
Work with local partners to integrate traditional knowledge and innovative solutions to improve community resilience.
Community Engagement and Capacity Building
Facilitate participatory workshops and training for farmers, community leaders, and local organizations on sustainable agricultural practices and climate resilience.
Engage communities in decision-making processes to ensure that interventions are locally relevant and owned.
Build the capacity of local stakeholders in areas such as agroecology, soil health, water management, and post-harvest practices.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact and sustainability of agricultural interventions.
Gather and analyze data to inform adaptive management and improve project outcomes.
Document and share best practices, lessons learned, and success stories with broader stakeholders.
Partnership and Collaboration
Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, local institutions, and other stakeholders to align initiatives with broader development goals.
Leverage partnerships and resources to support project implementation and scale successful models.
Advocate for policies and practices that promote sustainable agriculture and community resilience.
Technical Support and Knowledge Management
Provide expert technical advice on issues such as climate-smart agriculture, food systems, and environmental sustainability.
Stay updated on the latest research, technologies, and trends in agriculture and resilience and integrate relevant innovations into community programs.
Contribute to the development of educational materials, training manuals, and guidelines for field-level implementation.
Skills Required
Qualifications:
Education: Masters degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Rural Development, or related fields. Or a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields with 10 years of experience
Experience: 5+ years of experience in agriculture, resilience programming, or community-based interventions, with a focus on rural development.
Skills
Strong knowledge of sustainable farming practices, climate-smart agriculture, and agroecology.
Proven experience in community mobilization, participatory planning, and capacity building.
Excellent project management, monitoring, and evaluation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.
Strong communication, facilitation, and training skills.
Understanding of gender-sensitive approaches in agriculture and resilience initiatives.
Other Requirements:
Willingness to work in Bawku and travel frequently to rural and remote areas.
Language proficiency in the local languages spoken in Bawku is a plus.
