Gender Officer, WEACT (INT7235)

Team Purpose

The Women’s Economic Advancement for Collective Transformation (WEACT) project in Ghana sits under the Economic Justice programmatic portfolio at Oxfam in Ghana. Among other themes, the portfolio works to maximize Oxfam’s impact on rights to sustainable and inclusive livelihoods through women economic leadership and engaging with the private sector, civil society actors and government at local, national, regional and global levels. The team will coordinate and provide strategic leadership for the implementation of the WEACT project. The Project Management Unit (PMU) under the tutelage of the Economic Justice portfolio is responsible for quality implementation and coordination within the consortium partnership in Ghana.

The Role

We are looking for a Gender Officer who will lead the gender mainstreaming efforts of the WEACT project making sure the different reports and documentations are gender disaggregated. S/he will spearhead the various gender related studies, analysis and audits in partnership with partners to provide relevant gender evidence for planning and advocacy on the project. The position holder will ensure the integration and implementation of Oxfam Feminist principles as well as the principles of the Feminist International Assistance Policy of Canada throughout the project lifespan. The position holder will also provide capacity building support on gender mainstreaming to partners and consultants on different WEACT activities, studies and research.

Key Responsibilities

Gender Mainstreaming

Support the conduct of gender related studies, gender analysis and gender audits of communities in partnership with partners and consultants
Promote cross-learning and sharing on gender transformative strategies on the project
Take part in public campaigns based on agreed plan of action and objectives on gender
Participate in and contribute to research, development of approaches and tools to capture gender-related innovations and practices
Promote integration between Oxfam in Ghana’s Gender components of WEACT project and implementing partners activities
Promote integration of Gender components of WEACT project into the mainstream Oxfam in Ghana Gender work
Review all project documents; plans, reports, manuscripts, publications, journals etc. to include appropriate gender sensitive content
Participate in related gender-mainstreaming for and feature the gender issues appropriately
Ensure WEACT gender issues feature in national gender discourse geared towards finding lasting solutions to problems of mainstreaming gender in Ghana
Technical Skills, Experience and Knowledge

Essential

A minimum of four years relevant work experience in a similar position specifically focused on gender equality, mainstreaming, equity and general women’s economic empowerment
University degree in Gender studies or in any relevant field
Demonstrated experience in advocacy and influence.
Solid understanding of the context of gender, gender laws and policies in Ghana
Strong knowledge of women’s rights, gender and human rights and women economic empowerment
Excellent interpersonal, communication and working skills in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
Ability to work with several stakeholders
Have a strong interpersonal influence with skills and work experience in relationship building, in an international organization.
Fluency in oral and written English
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Power Point).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence and negotiate.
Availability to travel within Ghana to program sites including on weekends
Experience in risks assessments and compliance with laws in an international NGO context.
Commitment to Oxfam’s mission and values, including the promotion of equality between women and men.

Experience with delivering gender related capacity building interventions
Knowledge and experience with gender approaches and tools
Strong learning process, facilitating skills, research and interview skills, and knowledge management
