Forest Programme Consultant Job Description

The Forest Programme Consultant  will be expected to develop two written deliverables as well as perform satisfactory, on-going support to the BirdLife Americas Conservation Team while our Forest Programme Officer is on maternity leave.
The principal focus of the consultant will be to support the planning and implementation of a mid-term evaluation of a 4-year, regional project that focuses on forest conservation, restoration and the development of sustainable livelihoods in the Atlantic Forest (Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina). The consultant will also be responsible for developing a quarterly newsletter and other communications materials for the same project, which will highlight some of the most important results the project generated in 2020.
The consultant will be expected to provide facilitation and logistics support for mid-term evaluation planning process and meetings with project partners, thoroughly document those meetings and produce the Mid-term evaluation written document. Meetings and communications with BirdLife partners will be conducted in Spanish, and the mid-term evaluation document will be written in English. The consultant will coordinate extensively with the BirdLife Americas Forest Programme Manager and Head of Conservation and will be expected to maintain fluid contact and communication with BirdLife partners in Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

Specific Tasks
Atlantic Forest Project Mid-term Evaluation (Deliverable): Adhering to established MTE methodology, schedule and structure, perform secondary data collection and review, organize and co-facilitate MTE consultation meetings with partners, document all findings and produce draft and final reports.
In close coordination with Forest Programme Manager, support MTE planning process, logistics and performance of the evaluation of four aspects of the Atlantic Forest Project: Project Strategy, Progress Towards Results, Project Implementation and Adaptive Management, and Sustainability.
Provide strategic recommendations to the Forest Program Manager on evaluation meeting facilitation and data collection and analysis and perform these duties.
Assess opportunities and progress to date that BirdLife Partnership has made on generating synergies with other related forest conservation and restoration programs and initiatives in the Atlantic Forest.
Document challenges, successes, lessons learned, emerging best practices and recommendations for integration into the second half of the Atlantic Forest project.
Atlantic Forest Project e-Newsletter (Deliverable): design, publish and disseminate a 4-5 page bilingual e-Newsletter (audience includes Donors, BirdLife Partners, staff and key stakeholders; content includes news on outcomes and results generated by the project in 2020 from a regional and national perspective).
Attend bi-weekly project coordination one-on-one meetings: The consultant will be expected to attend general project coordination meetings with the partners, perform reviews of project and partner work plans, and assist the Forest Program Manager in providing support and oversight to the three implementing partners of the Atlantic Forest project.
Communication Products for Atlantic Forest Project: Provide on-going support to the BirdLife Americas Communications Specialist and Forest Program Manager on the development of a plan for the production of a project video, a written article for publication on the BirdLife International Website, and regular social media content.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

Relevant B.Sc. qualification from an accredited institution in the field of conservation biology, natural resource management, international relations or development. An advanced degree (Masters) would be an advantage.
Proven experience in project coordination and management.
Demonstrated experience in project monitoring and evaluation and communications.
Understands the conservation and sustainable development context.
Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Spanish.
Self-confident and well rounded, with the capacity to understand multiple perspectives and cultural diversity and deal with those differences diplomatically.
Flexible and able to balance competing priorities.
Demonstrates leadership in suggesting ideas and persuading others to follow.
Access to computer hardware and software needed to complete tasks outlined in these Terms of Reference.
Proven team player, able to work independently.
