As the Communications and Marketing Advisor volunteer for ScaleUp Africa in Ghana, you will support the organization to promote its work and deepen partnerships with other organizations through communications and marketing channels.

Communications and Marketing Advisor Roles and Responsibilities

Support the partner organization review its current communication and visibility plan, as well as its social media platforms
Assist the organization with the development of digital market content and implementation strategy targeting women, youth, businesses, and entrepreneurs

tDevelop short communication messages and videos for showcasing the products and services of youth and women entrepreneurs in Ghana
The Communications and Marketing Advisor  will support the team produce training workshops and field reports
Communications and Marketing Advisor will participate in pre-assignment online training

Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment

Support the representation and engagement of women in all activities and program benefits
Co-develop the volunteer work plan with the partner organization and country office using WUSC e-volunteer work plan template

Submit volunteer timesheets, reports and deliverables as required by the partner organization and WUSC.
Experience and Qualifications
The Communications and Marketing Advisor  should have a degree and/or formal education in social science or a related field
Knowledge of social media and digital marketing
Ability to conduct research and make coherent, actionable recommendation
Proven capacity to work with various stakeholders and across cultures

Comfortable using online working platforms
A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.

Project Description

Volunteering for development is one of the important ways in which WUSC pursues its mission. The IGNI+E project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, supports over 70 partner organizations to advance gender equality and the economic empowerment of 1.2 million youth around the world.

IGNI+E harnesses the knowledge, capacity and expertise of skilled Canadians through volunteer assignments and public engagement activities to assist partners in improving their performance, advocating for gender equality, and implementing more sustainable, innovative and inclusive initiatives and services for poor and marginalised youth, particularly young women.

Overseas, our volunteers collaborate with a wide variety of partners, including enterprise and social enterprise development incubators, skills training centres, women’s organizations, and youth groups. In Canada, WUSC works with institutions and individuals to identify, prepare, and support volunteers who travel overseas to support our partners.

Our network in Canada also works with WUSC to raise awareness among Canadians to inspire greater action on global development issues. Our collective focus is on sustainable and inclusive changes to create a better world for youth.

ScaleUp Africa is a for-profit social enterprise. ScaleUp Africa is a women-led business development and capacity building organization based in Ghana working to support women and youth Innovators in agribusiness, tech, green and creative industries through corporate, foundation and international development partners and sponsors.

ScaleUp Africa’s overall mission is to design and implement innovative, gender-sensitive programs that result in improved market and digital access, skills development and sustainable, decent work for women and youth across Africa and the diaspora.

Communications and Marketing Advisor  Support Package
Support and guidance from the WUSC Volunteer Mobilization Team prior to departure and from WUSC Country Team while on assignment

Pre-departure training to learn about the volunteering for development program, gain practical skills for living and working in an intercultural context and network with other volunteers
Travel, meals and accommodation during in-person pre-departure training

In-country orientation upon arrival in country of assignment
Language training in country of assignment, where required
