This role will ensure the operability of the future Major Project mine through input and leadership of the Stage Gate Process, developing collaboration between Projects and Regional Business units, and providing the vision of a long-term operational view.
Accountable to develop and lead the Operations project management effort. This will include the team responsible for process/metallurgy, geology, mine engineering, operations development, land, legal, IT, contracts, materials management, risk management, accounting mine maintenance, H&S, Emergency Response, Security, tax and assessment of the business case financials.
Ensure that Newmont global standards for HSLP, S&ER, IT, and all functions are understood and followed by the new business from the project phase through to when the project becomes operational.
Accountable to develop and lead the business, a it relates to the new investment. This includes management of land, legal, IT, contracts, materials management, risk management, accounting, tax and assessment of the business case financials. This will include setting up the Ahafo North business.
Support ongoing site activities from a business perspective so that project goals are accomplished as planned.
2.Project Execution & Management
Successfully execute interim infrastructure or other programs necessary for project advancement.
Ensure the Stage Gate scope of work for S&ER, Business, HR and Operations is complete and also supports the future operability of the project.
Ensure all project activities are conducted within a Newmont H&S, S&ER, and Business culture and meet local regulatory requirements.
Provide leadership on overall project strategies as part of the project management team and provide continuity as the project progress through Stage Gate, construction and operations.
Facilitate the appropriate participation in, support for and ownership of the project by the Regional Business Unit to ensure the future success of the project.
Accountable to develop and lead HR and People strategy for the Ahafo North Major Project, including all integration and startup activities in the new Greenfield environment.
Retain and develop an operations team who are available and ready for operations.
Develop, hire, and provide leadership to the team responsible for S&ER, Operations, Business and HR in Ahafo North.
Ensure all project activities are conducted within a One Newmont HSLP, ESR, and Business culture and meet local regulatory requirements.
Support ongoing site activities from a Business perspective so that project goals are accomplished as planned.
Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Newmonts Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices.

Training & Experience
Minimum of an engineering degree in a mining related discipline or a business degree
15 years of experience in a mining environment with 5+ years of senior mine management experience with multi-functional, broad based management responsibilities. International experience would be an asset.

Position is located at Ahafo and Ahafo North Sites
The work will be in a field project office that has the usual dynamics of expanding staff and limited resources.
Position will be required to travel to other locations and project offices in Ghana and also visit construction and mining sites and must be fit enough to traverse rough ground, climb ladders, and walk for minutes without tiring.
