Alumni Relations Officer Job Description

The Alumni Relations Officer at Ashesi drives engagement between the University and its alumni. The Office helps build bridges between generations of Ashesi graduates, identifies opportunities for the Ashesi alumni community’s growth, and helps alumni identify opportunities to give back to their alma mater. The Office works closely with the Ashesi alumni council to accomplish these outcomes and is a vital part of the University’s advancement efforts.

Ashesi is looking for a skilled community engagement professional to lead this Office as Alumni Relations Officer. Reporting to the Director of University Communications, the Alumni Relations Officer is someone with an instinct and passion for community building, relationship management, excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and a high level of organizational and interpersonal skills.

Alumni Relations & Communication

Serve as a key member of the Ashesi Alumni Council, and work with the Council’s leadership to drive strategic initiatives and foster a stronger alumni network.
Lead the design and implementation of programmes that increase alumni support, keep alumni connected and deepen their interaction with the University.
Lead alumni tracing and ensure accuracy of alumni information.
Serve as the primary liaison between Ashesi and its alumni, providing support as needed to alumni looking to engage, support or give-back to Ashesi.
Coordinate with faculty and staff in engaging alumni in academic activities, student engagement activity and advising of university leadership.
Lead content planning and creation for alumni stories, working closely with the Communications Officer to highlight the growing impact of Ashesi alumni.
Support the Career Services Office in identifying and communicating opportunities for alumni career success, tracking and reporting graduate outcomes.

Alumni Fundraising and Volunteering

Identify and communicate key opportunities for alumni to give back to Ashesi and support university excellence through fundraising.
Provide information to alumni donors on the impact of their giving and establish opportunities to recognize and celebrate alumni giving.
Track and provide reports on alumni giving, ensuring that the potential of alumni giving is effectively leveraged in deepening the excellence of the University.

This Role Typically Requires:

Strong understanding of community engagement and development.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience with writing for the web.
Ability to plan and execute events and community activities.
Ability to identify narratives and help people communicate their work and impact.
Knowledge of relationship management and newsletter tools like Mailchimp.
Ability to work with multiple audience groups.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and execute productively.
Good understanding of photography and photo editing.
Knowledge of short-form video scripting, creation and editing.
