Funding for R&D projects
Efficiency for Access invites agencies globally to apply for funding for R&D projects that will develop enabling technologies or products for weak and off-grid areas, with a particular focus on inclusivity and interoperability.
Due to increasing concerns surrounding COVID-19/coronavirus, the Efficiency for Access Research and Development Fund is extending the submission deadline for the Enabling Technologies Funding Call to 6 pm GMT Sunday 22nd March. If you have any questions about this, please email EforAgrants@est.org.uk.
Up to £2 million in funding has been made available, supported by UK aid and the IKEA Foundation. Between £50,000 to £300,000 of funding is available per project.
How to apply
To apply to the Research and Development Fund you must register your organisation here. If you have already registered then you will not need to register again. Once you are registered, you may submit an application form detailing your project through the same web portal here.
Applications must be received by 18:00 GMT on 22 March 2020.
The focus on enabling technologies was made in recognition of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This includes SDG 5 to achieve gender equality, SDG 7 to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all, and SDG 10 to reduce inequality within and amongst countries.
The percentage of funding is dependent on the size of the organisation, ranging from 90% for start-up and micro-sized organisations to 50% for large organisations. We encourage applications based in, or conducting R&D projects in UK aid priority countries. In addition, we are available to provide partner match-making assistance for your application if you are looking for partner organisations with specific areas of expertise. This provision of support is available until 14 February 2020.
Please ensure you read the guidance for applicants document located here prior to applying. It provides the full details of the call including the scope, eligibility criteria, key dates, application assistance details and links to programme documents such as our grant agreement and reporting templates. Answers to frequently answered questions have also been provided in our FAQ here.
